Pro Tips for Maintaining Interior & Exterior Concrete
- Hire a reputable Contractor or follow recommended practices when placing and finishing concrete. Ask us about contractors, we’d be happy to provide some recommendations!
- Cure the concrete properly.
- Clean and seal the slab surface each fall to help resist chemical attack from de-Icers.
- Keep snow and ice from building up on concrete.
- Do not use salt, fertilizer, or commercial de-Icers during the first year and after placement of the slab. (Clean sand works for traction). AFTER the first year, if you must use de-Icer, use only as much as necessary to remove ice.
- When the weather allows, wash the surface of the slab to remove chemical solutions.

Pro Tips for Maintaining Asphalt
- Cure asphalt for 48-72 hrs.
- Do not drive on the asphalt for up to 3 days, or longer if the weather is very hot.
- Do not drive on the asphalt’s edges.
- Do not park large cars or trailers on the asphalt for an extended period of time.
- Keep water off the asphalt as much as possible.
- Inspect your asphalt throughout the year and repair any flaws or cracks timely to avoid more costly repairs.
- Gasoline or oil spills can dissolve the asphalt surface over time. Using a hand scrub brush and specifically designed cleaners is the best way to remove those stains. **Do not use petroleum solvent solutions, as they damage asphalt.
- Most importantly, it is recommended to seal coat your asphalt every 2 years. Sealcoating will slow the deterioration process and ensure that your asphalt will last as long as possible!
